The Importance of Finding the Best SEO Blogs

If you are a small business owner, keeping up with search engine optimization (SEO) trends can be a nightmare.  Even for those of us in the business, there is still a constant struggle to stay current.  Google has made big changes to their algorithms over the past year or so and has much more in store but they aren’t always the best at complete, concise or clear disclosure.  If you want to keep up with SEO, you need a shortcut.  Which sources should you trust?  Here are our absolute favorites, 3 of the best SEO blogs.

Moz

Moz started as an SEO company in 2004 and has become a go-to source for thousands (upon thousands) of web developers and marketers.  Their main business is API data so they really understand what happens, the when and why with Google and other search engines and they don’t mind sharing what they know.

The “Moz Blog” is put out every weekday and addresses all-things Internet like SEO, website builds and marketing but Moz offers a lot more.  They have the “YouBlog” which is written by contributors, “Rand’s Blog” written by Moz co-founder Rand, an SEO and social media guy, and “Dev Blog,” which is technical stuff for website developers.

The best thing about Moz though is the wealth of information they offer outside of the blog from guides and basic “how to” documents, to Q&A by the community, to free tools.

Search Engine Land

Search Engine Land is a daily publication, an actual news source.  It covers all aspects of search engine marketing including news, trends and current happenings.  Specifically, for SEO, they do a once-weekly blog post but they also have sections for Search Engine Marketing, Local search, Mobile SEO, and for platforms like Google, Bing and social media sites.

Articles are written by staff and by contributors who are subject matter experts.  New articles are published several times per day and the site also offers a number of “how to” guides and articles.

The best thing about Search Engine Land is the frequent posts and up-to-date information on a wide variety of topics and the fact that many of their articles are written by industry experts.

Search Engine Journal

Our third pick, Search Engine Journal, is a community-based information site which is focused on search marketing.  They are a great source of information but they may be most well known for their “SEJSummit” which is a 1-day intensive seminar for SEO and SEM professionals, this year to be held in Chicago on May 11.

Some articles are written by SEJ staff but a good number are contributed by industry experts outside the company.  They have information on the big important topics – SEO, marketing, and social media, but also cover niche topics like paid search and content marketing.  As a bonus, they include news, trends and even rundowns on known personalities.  Multiple articles are published daily but they also offer evergreen content guides and training articles.

The best thing about Search Engine Journal is its marketing focus and the variety of content that is available from SEO basics to more specific topics like content marketing.

These aren’t the only SEO blogs we read but they are ones that we rely on the most.  If you are trying to keep up with SEO, you need to get the right information at the right time.  If you check out our 3 favorite SEO blogs, you probably won’t have to look further for what the kids call “the TL:DR” (too long, didn’t read) of the latest SEO update.
