If your website traffic keeps sliding while leadership keeps asking where the buyers went, you're in very good company. SparkToro co-founder Rand Fishkin recently broke down fresh Similarweb research showing that 68% of U.S. Google searches now end without a click. For every 1,000 searches, only 232 send anyone to the open web. Two years ago, that number was 316. Back in 2016, zero-click searches sat at 45%.
Buyers are still researching, which should change how you think about B2B growth strategy. They’re just doing it somewhere other than your website. A VP of Operations might watch a YouTube teardown on her lunch break, see a peer’s LinkedIn post that afternoon, and read a Reddit thread that night. By the time she talks to anyone, she already has an opinion about your company. So for most teams, B2B pipeline growth isn’t a traffic problem at all. It’s a visibility problem.
The old playbook was built to win the click. The new one has to win the buyer before the click ever happens. Here are seven plays to get you there.
How Can B2B Companies Grow When Buyers Aren't Clicking?
B2B companies can still grow even when buyers stop clicking, but they have to take their content to where buyers already research, like LinkedIn, YouTube, and industry communities. A good B2B growth strategy for a zero-click world focuses on showing up there with real answers, making it obvious what you do, and judging success by pipeline, not traffic.
Before you crank up content production, figure out where your buyers spend their attention. Rand made a point that should bring real relief to stretched marketing teams: in B2B, your audience may concentrate in just two or three meaningful places. You don't need a TikTok strategy just because someone on LinkedIn said so.
Audience research tools like SparkToro (one we use with our own clients) show which podcasts your buyers listen to, which LinkedIn voices they follow, which YouTube channels they watch, and which subreddits they actually join. That last detail matters. Knowing "Reddit over-indexes" is nice. Knowing which subreddits is a strategy.
Your move: Identify the top three to five attention channels for your ideal buyers before deciding where to invest more content.
Most B2B social promotion works like a movie trailer: here's a tiny teaser, now click our link for the actual answer. Buyers have stopped buying tickets.
Zero-click content flips the script. Give away the insight right where people are scrolling, and let the ones who want more find you. Rand says roughly 95% of his posts deliver native value, with only the occasional one asking for a click. His newest research proves the payoff. His 2019 study pulled about 60,000 site visits on day one; the new one drew closer to 5,000. Yet the new study reached far more people, thanks to more than half a million views on Reddit, plus on LinkedIn and YouTube, and newsletter pickups.
The catch is that pasting a 2,000-word blog into LinkedIn isn't distribution. Turn a webinar into native video clips, research into a carousel, and an FAQ into a genuinely helpful community answer.
Your move: Take your five strongest assets and pull three to five standalone ideas from each.
Here's the uncomfortable truth: your website is no longer your business's homepage. Your homepage is everywhere your buyer goes to learn.
Rand put it bluntly. Middle- and bottom-of-funnel information needs to migrate, or at least be replicated, into the platforms where buyers research. If someone discovers you on LinkedIn or YouTube, they shouldn't need your website to understand who you help, what problem you solve, why you're different, and what to do next. That pinned post or featured video had better make your case, fast.
Your move: Audit your company and executive profiles on your top three channels and ask one question: could a qualified buyer understand our value without leaving this page? If not, fix the positioning before you publish another thing.
People follow people. Building reach through a company page is brutal; Vende's own LinkedIn posts earn ten to twelve times more views from a personal profile than the identical post on the company page. Meanwhile, credible experts already have the attention and trust brands spend years chasing.
That's why B2B is overdue for creator marketing. Rand described how a single post from SparkToro co-founder Amanda Natividad can put a product in front of 10,000 likely buyers the brand could never reach on its own. And the best B2B influencers often don't see themselves as influencers at all. They're practitioners, consultants, newsletter writers, podcast hosts, customers, partners, and your own executives.
Your move: Shortlist ten people whose audiences overlap with your ICP, then look for ways to collaborate on research, webinars, interviews, or real product use cases.
Let's turn the AI panic down a notch. Rand's clickstream data shows referral traffic from tools like ChatGPT is still tiny, and Google still dwarfs AI chat for discovery, even among tech-savvy executives. Google's AI Overviews, however, are now influencing nearly every buyer you have.
Engagement isn’t the only thing that counts anymore. A post on Reddit, YouTube, or LinkedIn can end up in AI answers even if hardly anyone reacts to it. Rand has seen a subreddit post with two upvotes and one comment appear in Google’s AI Overview the next day. So the company page post that got five likes still did some work. It added to your AI search visibility whether people noticed or not. Keep showing up with the same expertise across those platforms, and you build topical authority, which is what AI looks for when it decides which brands to recommend.
Your move: Make sure clear explanations of your expertise, category, customers, and differentiators live on credible third-party platforms, not just your website.
Gated content isn’t evil. A form is basically a ticket price, though, and buyers will only pay it if the show is worth it. At Vende, we call this a fair exchange of value.
Live events are a good example. Registration makes sense for a live webinar because attendees get a seat, real-time access, and a chance to ask questions. The replay is more like a movie that’s already left theaters. It can live on your website ungated, while short clips on LinkedIn and YouTube send people back to watch the whole thing.
Your move: Look at your gated assets and ask yourself honestly, “Would I give this company my contact info for this?” If the answer is no, drop the gate or make the content worth the price of admission.
Zero-click marketing creates an awkward measurement problem: some of your most influential marketing will never show up neatly in GA4. As HubSpot explains in its breakdown of zero-click searches and the marketing funnel, the traditional funnel assumed that a search led to a click, a click led to a visit, and a visit eventually became a lead. That chain is snapping.
Rand tells B2B CMOs to worry less about strict attribution and start measuring lift. Find where your audience spends time, invest there, and watch whether the business numbers improve. You don’t have to throw out your dashboards to do it. Just widen the scorecard to include branded search growth, reach in your priority channels, direct and returning visitors, pipeline, and revenue. We call it pipeline over clicks. A LinkedIn post isn’t built to drive a trackable click, so don’t measure it like an ad.
The clickless future isn't short on opportunity. It just gives you less control over where buyers learn about you. The companies that win will stop treating their website like a castle behind a moat and start building useful outposts wherever buyers gather: find the audience, earn attention, deliver value natively, build trust everywhere, make deeper engagement easy, and measure the lift. The click can still come. It just doesn't have to come first.
That shift is where Vende comes in. As a HubSpot Solutions Partner, we help B2B and industrial companies align sales, marketing, and RevOps around how buyers actually research and buy today.
